Costa Rica's Guanacaste province encompasses two thirds of the stunning Nicoya Peninsula as well as Costa Rica's northwestern corner right up to the Nicaraguan border. There is tons to do when exploring the Guanacaste province. Flanked by volcanoes and located between the cordillera de Guanacaste and the cordillera de Tilares makes this region a hiker's paradise. There are ample opportunities for birdwatching and horseriding in the mountains and National Parks. Guanacaste is also home to some of Costa Rica's best beaches where you can surf, snorkle and sunbathe to your heart's content!
Guanacaste is the most traditional of all Costa Rica's provinces and this is most apparent in the music of the region. Folk is still the favoured musical style here and locals learn the traditional dances which are always showcased in the Guanacaste festivals.
